Conservation Trust for North Carolina
CTNCConservation & Diversity Project Coordinator

The Conservation & Diversity Project Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination and management of a statewide Conservation & Diversity Project to increase land and water protection and promote community health, wealth, and well-being. The coordinator will work with numerous partners, including the NC Community Development Initiative, the Black Family Land Trust, The Conservation Fund and North Carolina’s network of local land trusts and other grassroots organizations.

Responsibilities include project planning, coordination, outreach, grant writing, building partnerships with non-traditional partners and communities to develop new program areas, and coordinating and expanding existing initiatives, including but not limited to: diversity internships, local/sustainable agriculture, organizational diversity training, community gardens, minority landowner outreach, youth environmental education, and conservation-based affordable housing.

Skills and Qualifications: Project management, facilitation, and event coordination skills and experience. Must be self-motivated and have strong collaborative skills. Must have ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines, and to work independently and in project teams. Positive energy and attitude are essential. Conservation and/or community development background a plus.

Durham County Open Space Program
Open Space Land Manager

The Durham County Open Space Program is seeking a motivated and self-directed team player for responsible technical and professional work in developing and managing open space properties.

Responsibilities: Identifying appropriate locations for nature trails and other public-use facilities; coordinating the design and construction of facilities including the potential bidding and management of construction contracts; recruiting, training and supervising volunteers in trail construction and land management activities; responding to and addressing land/resource management needs and concerns; preparing management plans for open space properties including invasive species management and habitat restoration; using GIS mapping to analyze potential acquisitions and preparing GIS maps on open space properties; and coordinating with local partners on open space issues including other local governments, land trusts, and volunteer organizations.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications: Experience with sustainable trail design, development and construction; ability to walk trails in uneven terrain and perform various land management activities; willingness to work in the field (often alone), as well as in the office environment; knowledge of natural resource management and land management; computer skills including Word, Excel, GIS and ARC View; preferably experience with Trimble GPS devices; experience with the use of tools and equipment needed for land mgt and trails construction, knowledge of southern piedmont ecology; strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
