This is how we're

Saving the Places You Love

The Conservation Trust for North Carolina protects our state’s land and water through direct conservation and cooperative work with local land trusts across the state.

Our mission is to preserve our natural resources as a legacy for the people who love North Carolina now and in generations to come.

Home development in NCDevelopment is inevitable as scores of people move to North Carolina every day. They need places to live, work, buy food and clothing. But our state’s forests, farms, wetlands, and wildlife habitat are at risk when poorly planned development swallows up critical natural areas.

In turn, that threatens our supply of clean air and drinking water. It harms North Carolina’s unique and beautiful plants and animals. And it undercuts an economy that depends on farming and tourism - our top two industries.

CTNC works with landowners, local land trusts, and government agencies to save the places you love.

Protected stream in NCWe help North Carolina’s local land trusts by obtaining grants, emergency loans and other funding for their projects; lobbying in Raleigh and Washington for laws and funding that encourage conservation; helping to manage coalition efforts; and coordinating public awareness efforts.

We also work directly to protect natural areas along the Blue Ridge Parkway, conserving 30,000 acres to date of spectacular vistas that make this scenic road the most-visited unit of the National Park Service. In other areas of the state, we sometimes serve as an easement partner with local land trusts, combining skills, resources and expertise to permanently protect threatened properties.
