Conservancy adds 413 acres at Surry County's highest point
Piedmont Land Conservancy is continuing its protection of Surry County's highest point, with the purchase of 413 acres of rugged forestland along Fisher Peak.
The Conservancy already acquired a 350-acre tract nearby.

“Protecting Fisher Peak is one of PLC’s highest priorities,” said Kevin Redding, the nonprofit Conservancy’s Executive Director. “Protecting this area is a major step towards protecting the nature of the Piedmont and our quality of life.”
Fisher Peak is nestled in the northwest corner of Surry County where the Blue Ridge Parkway reaches the North Carolina/Virginia state line. It contains the headwaters of 13 separate streams that drain in to the Fisher River, a clear flowing tributary of the Yadkin River. The largest streams are believed to contain native brook trout. The steep slope and rock outcroppings contain rare grasses and unique wildlife habitat.
The project was made possible through contributions to PLC’s Protecting the Nature of the Piedmont campaign.
The Conservancy plans to use the property for member outings. Details of upcoming hikes will be announced on the organization's website.
