About Us
The Conservation Trust for North Carolina is a non-profit statewide conservation organization. Our mission is to protect our state’s land and water through statewide conservation and cooperative work with land trusts to preserve our natural resources as a legacy for future generations. The Conservation Trust works directly with landowners, local land trusts, and government agencies to protect land and water resources most important to local communities throughout the state.
North Carolina’s forests, farms, wetlands, and wildlife habitat are being developed at an alarming rate. This rapid loss of our natural areas threatens our health, our environment, and our quality of life. The destruction of stream banks, farms, and forests threatens drinking water quality, degrades air quality, harms wildlife, limits recreational opportunities, and undercuts our natural resource-based economy.
Rapid population growth has fueled the increase in development. Tens of thousands of new residents come to North Carolina each year, many expressly to live among our beautiful mountains, rivers, and coasts. These new neighbors help bring economic growth, but if we don’t protect our land and waterways, we run the risk of killing the goose that laid the golden egg. We cannot afford to lose the vital natural character of our state which makes it so attractive in the first place.
We have only a narrow window of time to protect some of the best places in North Carolina before they are altered forever. We need your support to retain what’s best about North Carolina – its rich and diverse natural splendor. We hope you’ll check out our website to find out more about the Conservation Trust for North Carolina and the state’s 23 local and regional land trusts.
