Please Join Us for Land and Water Conservation Lobby Day
Raleigh, NC Wednesday, June 8, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

The North Carolina General Assembly is in the thick of setting the state’s budget for next year. The legislature’s decisions will have a direct effect on funding for essential conservation programs, and consequently for our air and water quality, wildlife habitat, recreational opportunities, and our quality of life.

We need you to come to Raleigh Wednesday, June 8 to educate your elected representatives about the urgent need to increase funding for the state’s land and water conservation programs. Schedule

Legislators respond best to the people who elect them – constituents like you. We need to show legislators a groundswell of local support for funding the state’s natural resource trust funds. In particular, we will advocate for full funding of the Clean Water Management Trust Fund at $100 million to protect and improve water quality. The program has been an incredible success. The fund is required by law to receive $100 million, but the state’s current budget only includes $62 million.

We also need to persuade legislators to provide $4 million for farmland preservation, because North Carolina is losing farmland at the fourth fastest rate in the nation. Finally, we will educate legislators about an exciting new campaign called Land for Tomorrow, which seeks to invest in North Carolina’s land, water, history, and future by increasing conservation funding by $200 million per year for five years.

If you would like to participate in the June 8 Land and Water Conservation Lobby Day, please contact Edgar Miller, Government Relations Director for the Conservation Trust for North Carolina, and he will provide you with more details.
