Stepping Up the Pace of Conservation in North Carolina Land Trust Assembly, 2007
North Carolina land trusts met April 11 -13 at Caraway Conference Center to fine tune their skills and learn new ways to increase the pace of land and water conservation in North Carolina. Land trust staff and board members attended seminars and workshops on national and state public policy, building non-traditional partnerships for conservation, land trust accreditation, communications, conservation financing, protecting working lands, and effective land stewardship. Some of the guest speakers included Phil Baddour, Chair of the Clean Water Management Trust Fund Board, Pat Byington, Southeast Regional Senior Associate of The Wilderness Society, and Abdul Rasheed, Chief Executive Officer of The North Carolina Community Development Initiative.
Piedmont Land Conservancy and the LandTrust for Central North Carolina hosted a reception April 12 at the home of Missy Rankin, Piedmont Land Conservancy Board President. The North Carolina Zoo hosted the Assembly's awards presentation the evening of April 13. Dr. David Jones, Director of the North Carolina Zoo, gave the keynote address on the connection between global population growth and resource consumption and the need for more land conservation in North Carolina.

Federal/State Government Conservation Partner of the Year: North Carolina Zoological Park
Corporate Conservation Award of the Year: Mast General Store
