Conservation Trust Protects Parkway Views in Wilkes County - Press Release

Phillips Gap - 124 acres

The Conservation Trust for North Carolina purchased a 124-acre property below the Lewis Fork Overlook along the Phillips Gap Road. The property was purchased January 10 to protect the Blue Ridge Parkway's natural areas and scenic views and expand recreational opportunities in Wilkes County. The property adjoins two other tracts that the Conservation Trust for North Carolina previously protected, forming over a mile of protected Parkway views. The eventual addition of this property to the Blue Ridge Parkway will enable the National Park Service to add to existing hiking trails that start at Jeffress Park and the Cascades Overlook. The property is located north of Highway 421 at milepost 270.2 of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Conservation Trust plans to donate the property to the National Park Service for inclusion in the Parkway.
