Blue Ridge Parkway Protection Project
The focus of our direct conservation efforts is protection of the scenic views and natural areas along the Blue Ridge Parkway. In 1996, the Governor’s Commission on the Year of the Mountains designated the Conservation Trust to lead and coordinate efforts to protect land along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Conservation Trust has permanently protected over 28,000 acres near the Parkway through land acquisitions and land protection agreements with willing landowners. We are currently working with a variety of partners to purchase land or conservation agreements on properties totaling another 6,000 acres.
